Monster Unleaded Energy Drink is the first caffeine-free energy drink from one of the major energy drink brands.

Monster developed Unleaded as a way for people who don't want the caffeine to still be able to enjoy their popular beverage.

We recently bought one at 7-Eleven to put to the test.

Monster Unleaded Review

The can is pretty simple with a matte grey finish and it is pretty evident that the drink is caffeine-free from the bright green labeling stating it a couple of times.

Taste:

Monster Unleaded tastes just like Original Monster; citrusy, sweet, and carbonated.

If you like the taste of original, you'll like Unleaded as well.

Energy:

Here's where this energy drink gets interesting as it is lacking caffeine, but still is wanting to be labeled as an energy drink.

There is no caffeine rush from this drink, but perhaps just a slight sugar rush. Monster strays a bit from their standard energy blend and replaces the caffeine with an additional amino acid, L-Arginine.

According to WebMD:

L-arginine is converted in the body into a chemical called nitric oxide. Nitric oxide causes blood vessels to open wider for improved blood flow. L-arginine also stimulates the release of growth hormone, insulin, and other substances in the body.

They also add glucose to their energy blend, but this is just a simple sugar of which most carbs we eat are converted to anyway by our bodies.

The complete energy profile is listed as:

  • Glucose
  • Taurine
  • Panax Ginseng
  • L-Carnitine
  • L-Arginine
  • Glucuronolactone
  • Inositol
  • Maltodextrin
  • Plus a B-Vitamin blend

Any perceived energy effects of Monster Unleaded will likely be more long-term than immediate without the caffeine.

In any event, Monster Unleaded Energy Drink is perfect for consumers who enjoy the taste of Monster, but don't want or can't have the caffeine.

Caution should still be used when drinking Unleaded as it still contains supplements and some people could have adverse reactions to the ingredients it contains.
