The company recently sent us some samples for review.
There really isn't anything special about the way TrueStart tastes. It tastes like instant coffee. It's a good instant coffee, but it's still instant coffee and doesn't compare to the flavor of freshly brewed coffee.
TrueStart uses only 100% arabica coffee beans sourced from sustainable and ethically grown coffee plantations in Columbia. There's nothing else in the product. TrueStart is simply freeze-dried instant coffee.
Based on my years of experience testing coffee and caffeinated products, I found TrueStart Coffee to have about the same effect as a shot of espresso. Since a serving of TrueStart is just 150 ml, most people would probably have two servings which would deliver between 150-230 mg of caffeine.
TrueStart Performance Coffee is an interesting product but it seems like a tough sell since it's basically instant coffee, which has a negative stigma among many coffee drinkers.
While traditional coffee can vary in caffeine content, in my experience, I can usually depend on my double shot espresso having a pretty standard effect and this is tested by me every morning even using different brands at times.
The benefit of TrueStart is that it is more portable and faster for busy athletes who may not have time to brew coffee traditionally or stop by the cafe for a coffee.
