Drink Neuro: Functional Beverage Review

Neuro Functional Beverages are a line of beverages designed to assist a person with various aspects of daily functioning.

Breaking News: Neuro recently was sued by The City of Santa Monica and Los Angeles County for false advertisement. Neuro agreed to pay a $500,000 fine and to change the language concerning the functionality of their beverages. Source.

They do this by including herbs and other ingredients believed to induce certain life-altering effects. Neuro has been around since 2009 and at one time had a wide array of functional offerings.

Historically, here was the Neuro product line:

  • Neuro Bliss (mood enhancement)
  • Neuro Sport (fitness enhancement)
  • Neuro Sonic (mental performance)
  • Neuro Sleep (sleep enhancement)
  • Neuro Trim (weight loss support)
  • Neuro Gasm (changed to Neuro Passion 2012) (body performance)
  • Neuro Supreme– (“best kept secret”)
  • Neuro Aqua– (alkalize the body’s pH)
  • Neuro Sun– (vitamin D supplement).
  • Neuro Daily– (immune support)

Unfortunately, consumer spending speaks loudly and many of the Neuros didn’t survive. Either they did not function well enough for consumers to keep buying them or there just wasn’t enough demand for the function intended.

Now only 4 Neuro Functional Drinks remain.

Current Neuro Line Up

  1. Neuro Sonic
  2. Neuro Sleep
  3. Neuro Bliss
  4. Neuro Daily

In addition to trimming down their product line, Neuro has introduced a couple flavor variations to their most popular functional categories.

I was recently sent their newest product line by the company to review and here’s what I thought of each.

In general, all Neuro Drinks are fruit flavored and lightly sweetened. All are carbonated except for Sleep.

Both the White Raspberry and the Summer Citrus Berry flavors are crisp and light. Their sweetness is enhanced with artificial sweeteners and the taste of these comes through just slightly.

Of the two, I like the Bliss flavor, Summer Citrus Berry the best.

Sonic has stronger carbonation than Bliss, but the fruit flavors are equally as light. Again, the artificial sweetener taste comes through slightly as an aftertaste.

Sonic comes in two flavors and I think Super Fruit Infusion is just “ok” but Blood Orange Passion is a great tasting drink.

Sleep is non-carbonated and comes in two flavors; Mellow Mango and Tangerine Dream.

Both have an appealing fruit flavor but Tangerine Dream reminded me of the juice barrels I drank as a kid. They always had that strange aftertaste. Mello Mango is best in the Sleep category.

Daily only comes in one flavor and it’s a great one at that. Tangerine Citrus is a nicely flavored beverage with just a hint of artificial sweetener coming through.

Neuro Functional Ingredients

Each Neuro Drink has a few ingredients that are believed to serve a purpose, some of them are based on scientific evidence while others have more “traditional” evidence for their use.

  • L-Theanine: This amino acid also found in tea has a calming effect.
  • Alpha GPC: Believed to improve thinking skills.
  • Chamomile: Used traditionally for its calming and soothing properties.
  • Phosphatidylserine: Believed to moderate the body’s reaction to stress.

  • Caffeine: A stimulant of the brain and body.
  • L-theanine: Produces a calming alertness.
  • Alpha GPC: Believed to improve thinking skills.
  • Phosphatidylserine: Believed to moderate the body’s reaction to stress.
Look here to find out how many Neuro Sonics would be deadly caffeine-wise.

  • L-Theanine: This amino acid also found in tea has a calming effect.
  • Melatonin: Hormone responsible for inducing sleep.
  • 5 HTP: Shown effective for treating insomnia.

Vitamins D, A, C, and E as well as selenium and zinc. All of these are believed to be needed for proper immune function.

Does Neuro Work?

First of all, this comes with a huge disclaimer: Individual results may vary.

Just as the research behind some of the ingredients listed above had mixed results, so will Neuro’s effectiveness. Some people respond better to these ingredients than do others.

Neuro Bliss

I think one would truly need to be in a stressful situation to fully evaluate Bliss. My life is pretty stress-free so all that I can say is it did have relaxing properties, but whether or not it could prevent someone from going over the edge would be better tested by someone else.

Neuro Sonic

By energy drink standards, Sonic is on the mild side. With just 100mg of caffeine, it provides some level of alertness, but not the level avid caffeine users would be accustomed to. The L-theanine helps boost Sonic’s effects, which is nice.

Neuro Sleep

I drank Sleep about 30 minutes prior to wanting to go to bed, but I couldn’t even finish an episode of Modern Family before dozing off. I slept well too. I awoke feeling very rested. Of the 4, I believe Neuro Sleep functions the best.

Neuro Daily

Daily is a bit hard to evaluate as the immune system’s health involves many factors and the only way to evaluate its functioning is its ability to fight and stave off disease.  Daily’s ingredients are useful but whether or not one bottle daily would be effective or not is questionable.

The Four Left Standing

So I think what we have here are the 4 best Neuro Drinks after consumers voted with their wallets.

10 functional drinks have been narrowed down to just the 4 that consumers were the most interested in.

If you are new to Neuro, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in any of these 4 as long as you remember my disclaimer above.

Have you tried any of the Neuro Functional Drinks? What did you think?

If you can’t find Neuro Drinks in your area you can buy them online here.

Neuro Sleep did not make me throw up, I actually have really bad sleep and stomach problems so after reading this review I was scared to try it but I did. It tasted good, and did relax me I did not get sick to my stomach did not wake up to pee! Nothing! Loved it! Today I am on Neuro Bliss so far so good!=0)

  • Casey

I drank Neurosleep at about 9:00pm and I normally go to bed around 11:30 or 12:00 and 9:40 I was out cold

  • Daisy

I tried the NeuroSleep as well and it immediately relaxed me. I’ve been having a hard time sleeping too so i gave it a try. I didn’t fall asleep right away but it definitely knocked me out earlier than expected. Tasted good too! and no stomach problems. I would like to try the Neurobliss and Neurotrim next.

  • Evyn

I tried the Neuro Sonic. I drank about half of it, and didn’t notice any difference after a little while. So I drank the rest of it.. Still nothing. And the flavor wasn’t all that great either. Maybe it would work for someone else though. I doubt I’ll be trying their other drinks

  • juper

hi! i just wanted to comment about NeuroSleep. I think you’re bad vomiting episode was not related to the drink. I have really bad insomnia and I tried NeuroSleep on 2 different occasions, and both times it DOES help me and make me feel very relaxed and drowsy, and does not make me sick at all. It works, and tastes yummy.

  • Cory

I have tried the Bliss, sonic, & the sport… the bliss actually put me in a great mood! i really like this drink alot and will definatly get it again the sport really had no effect on me other then making me feel pretty satisfied with my thirst and the SONIC as other people on here was insane! i didnt sleep for nearly 2 days after drinking one of those! but i loved every minute of it..maybee because i drank the bliss and sonic back to back? i just picked up a trim and a sleep today will let you know how they go for me but from what i have tried so far i am a big supporter of these drinks!

  • Jo

My friend loves Neuro Sleep and recommended it to me. I’m on two dif types of sleep aids (one is an anti anxiety drug (closmipan or something) and the other is ambien. To those I’ve been adding melatonin and 5HTP. I’m a huge insomniac and even with that combo it doesn’t always work. I tried half a bottle of Sleep last night and I did go to sleep pretty quickly.

I can’t say it absolutely did the trick but I can vouch for a few of the ingredients. I’m looking forward to the bliss (I can get moody) and I’m afraid of the sonic but might take it to a party.

Found it in Luckys in Alameda, ca

  • Kyle

I am finishing off my NeuroBliss as I type. I was very surprised to be in just that a blissful mood. I am even downright giddy which is a significant change from my tired unenthusiastic and rather stressed self. It seems like this drink is the answer to my prayers because I have a hard time relaxing and not worrying. I can’t wait to try the other selections of drinks. In fact I am downright excited if they work nearly as well as Bliss does.

  • ted

@kyle, I’d be curious to see if the “bliss” keeps working every time you drink one or if the effect wears off over time as your body builds tolerance to the ingredients. Let us know would you?

  • Sierra

I’ve tried the Neuro Sleep twice and it sure puts me out. It didn’t work instantly, but I’m a night owl and it still got me to sleep before midnight, so I say it’s doing it’s job. Also, no vomiting or any other ill effects so far.

  • Daniel

I got one of them as a shampoo replacement. It doesn’t really worked but it looked well in my bathroom

  • ted

    You can’t be serious…lol..

  • Justin

Today i had Neuro sleep just to see if it would work. Unfortunately it did. I spent most of the party after drinking it extremely drowsy and tired. Dont be an idiot like me and drink it unless your going to sleep

Well the only reason i posted this is because Neurosleep actually made me very drowsy and i definitely would have been able to sleep in a second, and no stomach pains or vomiting

  • kyle marx

wow, im so suprised i got the biggest buzz ever!!! to be honest i dont do the bad stuff they sell in black markets. im seriously a young adult that loves energy drinks.neuro sonic was the first energy drink that made me feel so energized and happy. unlike the neuro bliss, they are still good. i decided to test the neuro sonic to its maximum. it said online that one could drink as many as they want in a day and not feel crashed.its true, i drank 9 neuro sonics in 1 hour and 3 minutes and 47 seconds. it made me feel like i was the happiest man alive literally. euphoria hit very strong. it was the best euphoria i ever had. this is for the scientist, i timed myself how many i could drink and after drinking it i peed and still didnt get a crash. forget the drugs, forget the mind therapy, and foget the other people that try to make you feel happy and good, have a couple of neuro sonic drinks and you will feel so good you wouldn’t theneuro drinks to go off the store counters. i literally, literally love the neuro sonic and neuro bliss drinks. i dont know if it made sence but i just love them. there is nothing more to say. it was woth spending more than $30 dollars worth of neuro drinks. thanks for coming up with them. it was a great innovation and im hoping you guys make more or actually better ones that may make you feel better than the one now.

  • Tom

Just tried a Neuro Bliss with my friend.
Not sure if it was the drink or company but I was in a good mood.
We both laughed a lot indeed.

  • Sarah

I love Neuro! I drink half a bottle of NeuroSleep at night, and it is incredible (1 full bottle is too much). NeuroSonic is my choice of crack!

  • Grace

I bought a bottle of NeuroBliss, no increased happy mood was noted but when I got home and found my sisters had been in my stuff it completely tipped me over the edge and I cried hysterically for almost a whole hour. I tore all the clothes out of my wardrobe and smashed my phone.. Not good. I’d taken no other medication and I didn’t realise until later that the NeuroBliss could possibly have altered my mood but not in a favourable way. I now feel pretty exhausted and just worn out. What I need now is to tidy up the destruction and then go right to bed.

  • Lucy

I have had the NeuroSonic and the NeuroBliss. Both taste nice, b`ut if you want the product for what it claims it does. Don’t bother. They work, sure, but they’re not great. I’ll be buying them again, just because I like the taste and not because of what they do.
NeuroSonic – is just like lucozade.
NeuroBliss – well, I was already happy at the time. Kind of makes you relaxed and carefree. But not enough for you to notice.
You need quite a few for anything to take proper effect. And they aren’t exactly cheep (but buy 1 get one free at Selfridges at the moment in the UK)

  • Eric

I had a pretty bad hangover this morning, late night last night. went to bed around 2 AM and woke up at 8 AM. thought I’d go grab an energy drink at the store and stumbled upon this Neurosonic. claiming it had stress reducing powers and energy, alertness plus mental function, i thought it would be an interesting remedy. shit. within 10 minutes i was perfect. as though I didnt have a drop of alcohol the night before, it was wonderful. I’m usually a monster guy, but no monster has ever done that for me. I would compare it to a 5 hr energy shot, in a 14.5 fl oz. form. i dont mean drinking 14.5 fl oz’s of 5 hr energy shots, no. I’m so alert, energized, happy and calm. maybe I’m just special.

  • Lion

    I’ve had a few neuro
gasms after I tried a bit of one my girlfriend had bought. I honestly didn’t even know (or notice) it was supposed to have a “special” effect. I just drank a sonic and I’m not noticing anything either, but I’m the type of person who drinks a pot of coffee everyday.
