Varieties of Kickapoo

To date there are 2 varieties of Kickapoo Soda.

Kickapoo Joy Juice: This is a citrus flavored soda named after the fictional drink featured the 1940's Li'l Abner comic series. Joy Juice contains 40 mg of caffeine per 12 floz can.
Kickapoo Fruit Shine: This is a sangria flavored soft drink (apples, mangos, oranges) inspired by the popular Spanish drink, but alcohol-free. Fruit Shine has 38 mg of caffeine per 12 floz can.

Kickapoo Review

We were sent a couple of cans of Kickapoo to try out.

Joy Juice: This flavor tastes really similar to Mountain Dew or Mellow Yello but has a slightly different finish. It's pretty sweet like MD, but has 14 milligrams less caffeine and 2 grams more sugar. If you like Dew, you will like Joy Juice.

Fruit Shine: This flavor of Kickapoo Soda tastes unlike any soda I have ever experienced. It is labeled as "sangria" flavored and I can definitely taste the grape, but with notes of citrus and other fruit flavors mixed in. Fruit Shine is a great tasting soda although a little too sweet for my taste at 48 Grams of sugar per 12 floz can.

As far as the "kick" from the caffeine is concerned, Kickapoo provides a little more caffeine than a Coke but a little less than a Mountain Dew. I would be more concerned with the insulin spike either flavor will deliver.

Kickapoo soda is available in 12 floz bottles and cans as well as 1 liter plastic bottles.

This soda was released in the Asian market back in 1966 and became widely popular there, but Kickapoo has just recently been reintroduced in the USA.
