YMateina Review

Prior to trying YMateina, I had never tasted classic yerba mate. I've had yerba mate mixed in energy drinks and shots, but never authentically brewed yerba mate.

Here's how each of the three varieties sent tasted.

Ka'a: This one is purely yerba mate so I imagine it is the original way yerba mate was consumed in South America. I brewed Ka'a according to the instructions and it produced an "earthy tea". I can't say I loved the taste but I didn't hate it either. It was more enjoyable when I added a little sugar.

Yamaica: This variety is a blend of yerba mate, hibiscus flowers, peppermint leaf, and stevia leaf. I brewed Yamaica according to the instructions and it produced a flavorful tea that was slightly sweet and minty. I enjoyed drinking this variety.

Kojoi: This variety contains roasted yerba mate and cane sugar and is brewed similar to the way coffee is made. This produced a dark flavorful beverage that tasted more like coffee. I added a little milk, which made it even better.

Ingredients and Effect

All of YMateina's products are made from organic ingredients and are very simple with no additives or preservatives.

As far as the effect, yerba mate is somewhere between black tea and coffee caffeine-wise. However, yerba mate contains a better nutrient profile than tea or coffee since it contains Vitamins A, B, C, and E as well as calcium, iron, manganese, potassium, and magnesium.

Overall, I enjoyed YMateina and it was fun to try something new.  Yerba Mate is a great alternative to coffee and tea and it's nice that it's becoming more widely available in the USA.
